Join us at Colchester Rugby Club for an update on Building Safety.

A lot has happened throughout 2026, so we thought now would be a good time to bring the industry together to look at what has changed, what it means for our projects and what we can expect going forward.

We’ll be joined by a panel of industry experts from Holmes & Hills, Daniel Connal Partnership and Vantage Building Control, who will share their perspectives on the latest developments and how these are affecting the industry in practice.

Sophie Bennett is an Associate Solicitor in the Construction Department at Holmes & Hills, specialising in non-contentious construction law. She advises developers, contractors, funders and other project stakeholders on construction contracts, appointments, warranties and risk allocation. With over five years’ experience, Sophie is known for providing clear, practical advice and making complex legal matters easy to understand.

John Read is a Partner at Daniel Connal Partnership and a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. He is a member of RICS and the Association for Project Safety, and acts as both CDM and Building Safety Act Principal Designer. His experience covers building design, construction, contract administration and health and safety.

The evening will begin at 5:30pm with teas, coffees and an opportunity to network before the session starts at 6:00pm. There will also be time for questions and discussion with our panel.

The route is a 5k loop around Chelmsford, run at a comfortable, conversational pace. Whether you're a regular runner or just looking to get some steps in, everyone is welcome.

Essex - Plans & Aims for Construction & Infrastructure (25 Feb 2027)

Join key figures from Essex councils and politics for a morning looking at the plans and practicalities of council planning, procurement and execution.

Louise McKinlay, 2028 Mayoral candidate for Greater Essex will be joined by Phoebe Barnes, Director of Assets and Investments and Lauren Stretch, Director of Housing for Brentwood and Rochford Councils.

Hosted at Chelmsford Theatre, come to a panel discussion in which the team will examine some key projects taking place across the county, how things work at a local and regional level and aspirations for infrastructure and construction in the region in 2027 and beyond.

Speakers:

Louise McKinlay, 2028 Mayoral Candidate for the Conservative Party

Louise has a long history of serving and working in local government across Essex. Having started her career in the City, she’s the former leader of Brentwood council and deputy leader of Essex County Council, and now sits as the CEO of Invest Essex. Her candidacy for the mayoral campaign in Essex was announced in 2025.

Phoebe Barnes, Director of Assets & Investments, Brentwood & Rochford

Phoebe’s strategic role focuses on council corporate assets, regeneration pipeline of creating and enabling the right developments for the community that live in the areas. She manages the leisure contracts, council owned car parks and oversees the wholly owned companies and seeking opportunities to deliver the aspirations of both councils in a difficult financial backdrop for local government.

Lauren Stretch, Director of Housing, Brentwood & Rochford

Lauren’s role sees her taking responsibility for housing performance, strategic housing delivery programs, and housing estates management across both boroughs, sitting on relevant committees, and taking responsibility for a number of developments and plans for housing across substantial sections of the Essex landscape.
