Site Visit, Colchester. NB: NEW DATE
Horizon Construction have kindly offered to take us on a tour of the 43 Queen St Digital Hub project in Colchester.
The 1,200m2 four-storey building is being designed with bespoke architecture, breathing new life into Colchester's heritage by replicating the aesthetic of the early 1900s Theatre Royal, which was demolished for the former bus garage. Once completed, it will serve as a collaborative space for digital artists, entrepreneurs, and tech creatives in the area.
The 1200m² project is located adjacent to Colchester’s Roman Wall and as such the bespoke architectural design compliments the city’s rich heritage. The four-story structure will offer businesses an inspiring setting for development and learning. The plan includes nine studio spaces, mixed use space which might include a café, and a potential digital hub to enhance Colchester’s position as a leader in these fields.
Conceptual designs for the building were first created in 2018 when the location was being studied by local architects Inkpen Downie. Our clients, Colchester City Council and Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd wanted to address the lack of larger spaces for businesses to grow in the creative and digital sector, which was the driving force behind the project.
Join us for a fascinating insight into a live project this October.
